Kargil TT delegation calls on LG, seeks support for Sport Development

LEH, Feb 6: A delegation of Table Tennis players from Kargil, led by Nasreen Fatima, President of the Table Tennis (TT) Association, Kargil, met with Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the LG’s Secretariat, here today.
The delegation highlighted the rising popularity of table tennis among Kargil’s youth, attributing the growth to the efforts of the Department of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh. The department has provided essential facilities, including table tennis boards, in several schools throughout the district. Several Kargil players have even represented Ladakh at national-level championships, earning accolades for the region.
In their meeting, the delegation presented a memorandum with key requests, including the appointment of a professional table tennis coach and the provision of essential sports equipment such as racquets, TT balls, sneakers, wristbands, and clothing for better training. Additionally, they requested a dedicated Table Tennis Court/Hall with necessary facilities like tables, lockers, and staff support.
Responding positively, the Lieutenant Governor instructed the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Secretary of Youth Services and Sports to train Physical Education Teachers and Rehbar-e-Khel instructors in multiple sports disciplines. The LG also emphasized the formation of sports federations for various games to promote better sports infrastructure and development across Ladakh.
The meeting was also attended by Advisor to the LG, Dr. Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner/Secretary to LG, Dr. L. Franklin, and OSD, Youth Services and Sports, Mohd Ali Tak.
