Sir,
The recent daylight robbery at Anand Jewellery Store and the brutal murder at Jewel Chowk highlight the alarming rise in crime in Jammu. Criminals operating fearlessly in broad daylight reflect serious lapses in law enforcement. The business community, particularly jewellers, is justifiably shaken, with many now demanding weapon licenses for self-protection-a clear sign of eroding trust in the police.
Jammu has always been known for its peace, but recent incidents indicate a worrying trend. The police must step up proactive measures, including increased surveillance, stricter checkposts, and tenant background verification. Mere assurances will not suffice; decisive action is needed to restore public confidence. If crime is not curbed immediately, it could irreversibly damage Jammu’s reputation as a safe city. The administration must act now before law and order deteriorates further.
