Govt emphasizes priority, protocol for MLAs

JAMMU, Feb 7: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has directed all the Government officers and officials to give priority to elected representatives in public offices and official interactions.

A circular issued in this context by the General Administration Department (GAD) emphasized that Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) play a crucial role in governance at the grassroots level. As such, the elected representatives be extended due cooperation by the officers and officials and the issues highlighted by them given priority.
“The elected Members of the Legislative Assembly of Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir are expected to play a crucial role in process of governance at the grassroots level. It therefore becomes imperative that all Government Departments, Officers and officials extend due cooperation and accord priority to issues highlighted/flagged by these public representatives,” the circular said.
All officers and officials have been accordingly instructed by the Government to handle communications, requests, and grievances from elected representatives professionally and respectfully.
“It is accordingly enjoined upon all the officers and officials working in various Government Departments of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir that elected representatives shall be attended on priority in public offices and proper protocol, as per established Government norms and guidelines, shall be adhered to in all such interactions,” read the Government circular.
“Communications, requests and grievances raised by elected representatives shall be acknowledged and processed on priority and Government officers/officials shall deal with elected representatives in a professional and respectful manner,” the circular further read.
Additionally, the circular mandated that the elected representatives be invited to all official functions and meetings held within their jurisdiction as also in the event of official visit of any dignitary in their jurisdiction.
The Government has called for immediate and strict compliance of the instructions.
