J&K wins 25 Medals at 38th National Games

JAMMU, Feb 14: Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) athletes have managed to secure 25 medals at the 38th National Games held in Uttarakhand from January 28 to February 14, a notable decrease compared to last year’s achievement of 46 medals at the 37th National Games. This year, the J&K team ranked 19th in the overall medal tally, a drop from their previous ranking of 12th.
The J&K contingent participated in 16 different sports. In Gymnastics, J&K performed exceptionally well, clinching 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze medals. Wushu was another strong area for the state, with athletes bringing home 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 4 Bronze medals. Additionally, the J&K team excelled in Taekwondo, securing 1 Gold. In Fencing, they won 2 Silver and 3 Bronze medals, while Archery contributed 1 Silver medal to the tally. The state also earned 2 Bronze medals in Judo, 1 Bronze in Netball and 1 Bronze in Kayaking & Canoeing.
Despite the drop in medal count, the J&K athletes’ efforts were commendable. The J&K Olympic Association expressed deep gratitude to Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and the Minister of Youth Services & Sports Satish Sharma, whose support played a significant role in the athletes’ success.
The association also acknowledged the contributions of Rajesh Dutta, the Chef-de-Mission and the support staff, including Brijesh Bhau, Sahil Sharma and Sahil Raina, for their diligent management of logistics and the smooth participation of the team. In recognition of the athletes’ achievements, the J&K Olympic Association plans to host a grand event to honour the medal winners.
