SONAMARG, Feb 18: The 9th National Snowshoe Championship-2025 concluded at Sonamarg, showcasing exceptional performances from athletes across the country. Around 110 athletes from 15-17 States participated in the two-day event.
MLA Kangan, Mian Mehr Ali, who was the chief guest at the closing ceremony, distributed prizes and medals to the winners. He was accompanied by Tourism Officer Sonamarg Basharat Ahmed, SHO Sonamarg and renowned athlete Reyaz Wani. MLA Kangan praised the event’s significance in promoting Sonamarg as a winter sports destination, stating, “Events like this will help transform Sonamarg into a premier winter sports hub.”
The championship was organized by the J&K Snowshoe Association in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Kashmir, under the Snowshoe Federation of India. This marked the second time Sonamarg hosted the prestigious event, after the 8th edition last year.
Mir Mudassir, President of the Snowshoe Federation of India, expressed gratitude for the support and assured that the Federation would continue to support Sonamarg as a venue for future championships.
The winners of the sprint and relay competitions were recognized for their exceptional performances, with medals and accolades presented at the ceremony.
