KISHTWAR, Feb 21: Police in Kishtwar have registered case against eleven individuals for allegedly obstructing the installation of smart meters in Umar Mohalla, Kishtwar.
The individuals booked in the case include Mohd Usma Bagwan, Ghulam Mohd Butt, Shahid Hussain Zarger, Abrar Ahmed Bhat, Shahnawaz Sheikh, Azad Hussain Butt, Ghulam Hussain Sheikh, Tahira Begum, Rubeena Begum, Shamshada Begum, and some unidentified person, all residents of Umar Mohalla.
According to an official complaint filed by the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Electric Sub Division (JPDCL) Kishtwar, these individuals unlawfully assembled on February 20, 2025, and deliberately created obstacles in the execution of Government work. They reportedly blocked the road and resisted the installation of smart meters in the locality.
Notably, residents of Umar Mohalla had staged a protest against JKPDCL on the previous day over the smart meter installation. Similar demonstrations have been taking place in the Chenab region over the past few days, with locals expressing their opposition to the implementation of the new metering system.
