GDC Samba resonates with ‘Dogri Kavi Goshti’

SAMBA, Feb 21: The Department of Dogri, SPPND GDC Samba, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, organized a Dogri Kavi Goshti (poetic meet) to commemorate International Mother Language Day.
This Dogri Kavi Goshti paid tribute to the richness of regional literature, featuring soul-stirring verses from a panel of eminent Dogri poets which included Vijay Sharma, Kuldeep Kippi, Bishan Singh Dardi, Dheeraj Bismal, Naresh Kumar, Kushal Singh Kattal, Dr Guru Parsad, T R Sumbria, Saroj Bala, and Rajni Thappa.
Principal of the college, Prof Twinkle Suri, in her welcome address, emphasised that the kavi sammelan has provided a unique platform for creativity and expression, playing a key role in preserving and promoting Dogri literature and culture and also fostering a sense of community and pride among the speakers and enthusiasts.
Sanjeev Rana, Additional Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, graced the occasion as special guest. He lauded the college’s efforts in promoting Dogri and encouraged students to engage actively with their linguistic heritage.
The event featured an interactive session, fostering discussions among students, faculty, and poets on the need to cherish, preserve and promote Dogri as a native language
Bishan Singh Dardi coordinated the Kavi Goshti, while Dr Joginder Singh, HoD Dogri, provided an insightful overview of Dogri’s history and evolution. The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr Javed Ahmed, HoD Urdu.
