JAMMU, Mar 1: Senior Congress leader and District Development Council (DDC) member for Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony has underscored the critical need for the Government, led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, to prioritize pressing issues affecting the rural populace, particularly in the sectors of agriculture, rural infrastructure, youth employment and regularization of daily wagers.
In a press statement issued here today, the senior Congress leader asserted that the upcoming Budget is crucial for the people, as it is being held after nearly seven years. This session marks the first Assembly budget since 2018, making it a pivotal moment for addressing longstanding issues in the region.
In his appeal to the coalition leadership, Tony said that the National Conference (NC) and Congress Legislature Party meeting is scheduled for Sunday, ahead of the Budget Session, urging CM Omar Abdullah and J&K Congress chief Tariq Hameed Karra to ensure that the upcoming budget reflects a strong commitment to the critical areas.
He emphasized that addressing the concerns of farmers, tackling unemployment, and developing rural infrastructure should be at the forefront of the Government’s agenda. Tony also appealed to the Government to waive off the interest on actual power bills, highlighting the immense financial strain faced by traders in J&K since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The senior Congress leader emphasized that the miseries of J&K people have increased manifold due to the hollow policies of the BJP over nearly a decade. He stated that the party’s promises of development and progress have remained unfulfilled, leading to a significant rise in unemployment, inflation, and infrastructural decay.
Tony asserted that people now have high expectations from the present coalition Government, led by CM Omar Abdullah, to address pressing issues. He underscored the necessity for a collaborative approach to governance, focusing on inclusive growth and the well-being of all citizens.
