RAMBAN, Mar 10: In a tragic road accident occurred this evening, one person died on the spot and three others sustained serious injuries when a Tempo Traveler and an Alto car collided head-on in Shalgadi four-lane tunnel area on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
According to police sources, the accident occurred around 5 PM when a Tempo Traveler (registration number JK13C-7242) collided with an Alto car (registration number PB02T-8863). Preliminary investigations suggest the car was traveling on the wrong lane towards Srinagar when the collision happened.
The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Anmolpreet Singh, son of Kamaljeet Singh, a resident of Amritsar, Punjab. The injured have been identified as Kamaljeet Singh (40), his wife Charanjeet Kour (40), and their son Arshdeep Singh, all from Maaduke, Amritsar.
Local police, along with volunteers from NGO Banihal, rushed to the scene and extricated the injured and deceased from the mangled remains of the car. The injured were initially shifted to Sub District Hospital Banihal and later referred to the Associated Government Medical College and Hospital in Anantnag for specialized treatment.
A police officer confirmed that the relatives of the victims were informed through Punjab authorities. A case has been registered at Police Station Banihal under relevant sections of the law, and further investigations are underway.
The accident caused a disruption in vehicular traffic on the Jammu-bound lane of the highway until the wreckage was cleared.
