Auctioning of dilapidated school buildings

Sir,
There are numerous buildings, that are beyond repair and uninhabitable. These structures have become habitats for snakes and other reptiles, which occasionally venture into school playgrounds, posing a threat to the lives of students. This has occurred multiple times at Government Girls High School, Gole Gujral Jammu.
Obtaining approval for the auction of such buildings is a cumbersome process. It entails writing to the PWD department or other relevant authorities to inspect the building and declare it unsafe. However, this process can take months, as the authorities may visit at their discretion. Moreover, such cases are often considered low-priority and remain pending for extended periods.
Once the necessary approval is obtained, the case is forwarded to the concerned educational authority for sanction. Subsequently, the process of auctioning the building commences.
To streamline this process, the Government’s School Education Minister should empower all Chief Education Officers to gather information about such buildings. Based on the recommendations of the concerned Drawing and Disbursing Officers, general sanctions can be granted.
