Jammu and Kashmir Police Embraces Digital Transformation

Vikram Sharma
In a major step towards modernization and citizen-friendly policing, the Jammu and Kashmir police has successfully transitioned its working from physical mode to technology mode by adopting various digital platforms. The initiative aims to provide transparent, efficient, and hassle-free services to the public while enhancing internal operational efficiency.
With the vision of “Smart Policing through Digital Technology”, the department has integrated multiple applications into its day-to-day functioning. All data generated through these platforms is now being uploaded and managed on the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS), ensuring seamless data sharing across police stations and other law enforcement agencies.
Key Digital Platforms Implemented:
e-FIR: Allows citizens to lodge First Information Reports (FIRs) online without visiting police stations, promoting contactless service delivery.
Zero FIR: Enables registration of FIRs at any police station, irrespective of jurisdiction, ensuring prompt action in sensitive cases.
e-Sakshya: A digital evidence management system for collection, preservation, and analysis of electronic evidence, strengthening investigations.
e-Summon: Facilitates electronic delivery of summons and notices, ensuring timely communication with parties involved in legal proceedings.
BA comprehensive database for crime and criminal records, enabling real-time information sharing across all police units.
e-Challan: A digital platform for issuing traffic challans, promoting transparency and reducing manual errors.
JK-eCOP: A citizen-centric mobile application providing services like complaint status, passport verification updates, FIR downloads, and other public services.
e-Property App: An app designed to maintain records of seized and recovered properties, making the entire process transparent and accessible.
e-Vahan Jyoti: A platform for verification and disposal of seized vehicles in a transparent and time-bound manner.
Data Integration with CCTNS
All data generated through these platforms is automatically uploaded onto the CCTNS, creating a centralized digital repository of crime records, FIRs, investigation details, and evidence. This integration allows seamless data retrieval, monitoring, and inter-state sharing of criminal records, significantly improving investigative capabilities.
“This initiative is a significant step towards Smart Policing. Technology not only improves efficiency but also enhances accountability and citizen satisfaction. The seamless integration of data through CCTNS will revolutionize policing operations,”
The Jammu and Kashmir police remains committed to leveraging technology for faster service delivery, transparent investigations, and aligning its services with the vision of Digital India. This transformation marks a new era of citizen-friendly, technology-driven policing.
