JAMMU, Mar 15: Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony, has accused BJP leaders of playing politics over the rehabilitation of 29 shopkeepers in the Assembly. Tony criticized the saffron party for shedding “crocodile tears” on the issue despite having the opportunity to resolve it when they were in power.
During a gathering of youth at Village Sai in Suchetgarh, Tony stated that the BJP had made promises to the same shopkeepers during elections, assuring them of rehabilitation. However, after securing a strong mandate, the BJP neglected the issue and is now shifting the blame to the present government.
The Congress leader also criticized the BJP for its inaction on other pressing issues like the welfare of daily wagers, where financial constraints are being used as an excuse. He accused the BJP of making false promises, including the restoration of statehood to J&K and other unfulfilled assurances, leading to widespread anger among the public.
Tony urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to develop a clear rehabilitation policy for the affected shopkeepers and assured that Congress would continue its fight for the people’s welfare.
Earlier, Congress leader also inspected ongoing works in Suchetgarh, where he reiterated Congress’ commitment to the welfare of the people.
