MUMBAI, Apr 28: Mumbai Indians (MI) secured a victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) yesterday at their home ground, Wankhede Stadium. With 6 wins out of 10 matches, the team now sits in third place on the points table. During the match, Mumbai Indians owner Nita Ambani fulfilled the dreams of 19,000 children.
At the historic Wankhede Stadium, over 19,000 children from across Mumbai packed the stands in a sea of blue, cheering enthusiastically for their team. The atmosphere was filled with energy as the children, many from underprivileged backgrounds and some specially abled, attended their first-ever live match.
Nita Ambani spoke about the significance of the annual Education and Sports for All (ESA) Match, calling it MI’s favourite match-day of the season. “This is not just a match. It’s a celebration of hope, dreams and joy. For many of these children, it’s their first time in a stadium and it’s overwhelming to see how much they’re enjoying the experience,” Ambani said. She noted that many players of Mumbai Indians and India come from humble backgrounds and their success serves as an inspiration to the children, proving that they too can achieve their dreams.
Ambani interacted with the children, who were thrilled to meet her. “One little girl wants to become like Jasprit Bumrah, and a boy just wanted to shake hands with Rohit Sharma. If their dreams can be realized, they can reach the stars,” she added.
She emphasized that at the heart of ESA is Education and Sports for All, believing that children learn as much on the sports field as in a classroom. The initiative aims to encourage young people to pursue their dreams, whether in education or sports, and to create a brighter future for them.
The event also highlighted the incredible logistics behind ESA—19,000 children, 500 buses and 100,000 meals, all contributing to a joyous day of celebration. ESA, launched in 2010 by Reliance Foundation, has impacted the lives of over 23 million children across India, providing them with opportunities to learn, play, and grow.
