Mongolian Government honours Sonam Wangchuk Shakspo with ‘Friendship Medal’

Leh: Government of Mongolia has honoured Sonam Wangchuk Shakspo from Ladakh with the Friendship (Nairamdal) Medal, one of the highest honours bestowed upon a foreigner by the Government of Mongolia, given to those pioneered the preservation of world peace, the deepening and development of international friendly relations and cooperation, and contributed to the development of the country. ‘Medal of Friendship’ by the President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh was in recognition of Sonam Wangchuk Shakspo’s services to foster India-Mongolia friendship & relations during last several decades. He received that award on Monday from Minister for Foreign Relations, Government of Mongolia Ms. B. Battsetseg.
“I feel honoured and humbled in receiving this high honour and would like to thank H.E. the President of Mongolia, Minister foreign Relations and all the well-wishers for bestowing this honour on me,” Wangchuk Shakspo said on receiving the award. Sonam Wangchuk Shakspo served as Secretary to the Indian Ambassador to Mongolia, late 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche, from the year 1990 to 2000, during a crucial period when Mongolia changed from communism to democracy. Since 2019 he has been working as Deputy Secretary General of Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace (ABCP), the first pan-Asia Buddhist organization based in Mongolia.
