Rs 8,500 fine recovered from traffic violators; 2 vehicles seized

RAMBAN: Motor Vehicle Department, Ramban on Saturday recovered Rs 8,500 fine from vehicle operators for violating rules of MV Act and COVID protocols.
The department has Challaned 50 vehicles during last one week on different routes of the district.
An enforcement team led by Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Shafqat Majid, conducted a massive checking drive and seized two vehicles besides booking others under Motor Vehicles Act in Banihal and Khari areas. The team also realised a fine of Rs 8,500 from violators for overloading, overcharging and violation for other rules under Motor Vehicles Act.
The enforcement team urged private transporters to adhere to 50 per cent restriction on authorized seating capacity as per COVID-19 safety protocol.
According to ARTO, total 50 vehicles were fined, 5 were seized on different routes in district during current week. 20 vehicles, mostly Sumo and Tavera were fined for indulging in overloading, overcharging and not implementing COVID protocols, whereas some three-wheelers were also booked for violating route permit.
The ARTO directed drivers and conductors to get themselves tested frequently besides taking vaccination to avoid COVID infection and not allow unmasked people in their vehicles.
