SRINAGAR, Oct 17: Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey, who took oath as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on October 14, urged the judicial officers in the two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Ladakh to ensure maximum disposal of cases in the coming week when a Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held.
Jammu and Kashmir Legal Service Authority and Ladakh Legal Service Authority are organizing a Special Lok Adalat on October 21, 2022 across the two Union Territories.
The Special Lok Adalat is being convened under the patronage of CJ Magrey, and under the guidance of Justice Tashi Rabstan, executive chairman of Ladakh Legal Services Authority and Justice Sanjeev Kumar, chairman of High Court Legal Service Committee.
“Felicitate me by ensuring maximum disposal of cases in the coming week concluding with Special Lok Adalat scheduled to be held on October 21, 2022 across the UTs of J&K and Ladakh,” the CJ said during an interaction with the judicial officers after taking oath.
During the interaction, the CJ said that the issue of pendency of cases is a huge challenge and the statistics with respect to the two Union Territories on National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) showed a surge in pendency.
Justice Magrey emphasized that maximum disposal in the upcoming special Lok Adalat would not only lessen the pendency of cases but would also give a solace to the litigants.
He also impressed upon the judicial officers, especially secretaries of District Legal Services Authorities (DSLAs) to educate the masses about the benefits of resolution of disputes through ADR mechanism especially Lok Adalat.
