71st Senior National Volleyball Championship

GUWAHATI: After a gap of 42 years, Rajasthan stunned Services to win the men’s title, while Kerala beat Railways to retain the women’s crown in the 71st Senior National Volleyball Championship held in Guwahati on Friday.
Rajasthan recorded a straight 3-0 (27-25, 25-21, 25-20) win over last year’s bronze medallist Services in the men’s final. In the hard line match, Tamil Nadu won the bronze medal by defeating previous year’s champion Haryana 3-1 (25-16, 23-25, 25-22, 25-22).
Rajasthan had earlier won the gold medal in the Faridabad National Championship in 1981.
Kerala women extended their supremacy by defeating Railways 3-1 (25-13, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21) in the final. In the bronze medal match, Bengal defeated Rajasthan 3-0 (25-21,
Secretary General, Volleyball Federation of India and Rajasthan Volleyball Association President Anil Chaudhary and General Secretary Ramavtar Singh Jakhar and all the office bearers congratulated the team for winning the gold medal.
Jakhar told that eight players in the gold medal winning team belong to the Rajasthan Volleyball Association Academy running at the SMS Stadium, Jaipur, Rajasthan.
