Janipur murder case: DySP led SIT constituted; girl murdered over suspicion

JAMMU: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by DySP Bakshi Nagar has been constituted to investigate murder of a girl in Janipur. Station Incharge Janipur and a SI have also been included in the SIT. In the case, talk of ‘love Jihad’ started arising after which officials ordered constitution of a SIT to investigate the matter, for ensuring a fair probe in the matter.
According to information, on Tuesday, a dental surgeon Johar Ganai, son of Mahmood Ganai killed a girl, namely Sumedha, resident of Talab Tillo, in Janipur area by stabbing her in his house. Later, accused also attempted suicide and is currently undergoing treatment in hospital.
As both belong to different communities and people have started seeing the matter with some other angle, a SIT has been constituted to properly investigate the case. Sources said that during investigation, it was learnt that accused killed the girl over suspicion. The girl was studying in Delhi and came after accused called her and killed her in his house. After that, he had put a status on the social-media site as well.

All other evidences are being collected by the police regarding this matter.
FIR Number 27/2023 under Section 302 has been registered in this connection at Police Station Janipur. In initial investigation, it was also learnt that the deceased girl and were in love for quite some time. Both had done their BDS from Dental College Seohra in Jammu and girl was pursuing her MDS from a college outside J&K.
