Another flesh trade racket busted in Jammu; 5 arrested

JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Police busted a sex racket in Jewel Chowk area of Jammu city, running in two local hotels–Richland and Tourist Camp, officials said on Monday.
As per police, three persons used to bring young women from Kashmir on the pretext of providing them jobs in Jammu and later get involved them in flesh trade.
Today police raided hotel Tourist Camp where the prostitution centre was being operated. Three accused including the manager of the hotel running the flesh trade were also arrested.
They have been identified as Mohammed Altaf of Kupwara Handwara, Asif Bhat of Anantnag and Tej Krishan of Nagrota Jagti.
“The three have confessed in police custody that they brought young women from Kashmir promising them jobs and later clicked their photographs and used the photographs to blackmail them and use them in flesh trade.
According to information, a few days ago the police got information that prostitution is going on in a hotel in Sant Market area near Jewel Chowk where minor girls are being supplied. On this complaint, immediate action was taken by the police. The police had raided Richland hotel in Sant Markat area. During the raid, the customer along with a minor was apprehended from one of the rooms. The minor told in her statement that she was being victimised. She told that the agent had brought her and hotel manager was also involved in this. During the investigation, a woman came to the police and lodged a complaint that she too was forced into flesh trade. She told that she was brought from Kashmir on the pretext of help in buying medicines after that she was put on this business in the hotel. Her photographs were also made and she was blackmailed and raped.
On her complaint, the police registered a case of rape and prostitution. Based on the statements of the woman, the police arrested three people from hotel Tourist Camp. They have been identified as Tej Krishna, resident of Jagti Nagrota, who is manager of Hotel Tourist Camp, Mohammad Altaf, resident of Kupwara and Asif Butt, resident of Anantnag. The victim told that two people had brought her from Kashmir on false pretenses. The hotel manager’s job was to find customers for her.
Now two cases have being registered by police. It has become clear, the gang running the business of prostitution is active in the local hotels of Jewel area who bring women and girls by luring them.
