JAMMU: Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Baldev Singh Billawaria inspected cleanliness of various Nallah, passing through different areas of Jammu city. During the inspection, a number of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) officials, party activists and locals were also present. Speaking on the occasion, Billawaria said that cleanliness work of 103 Nallahs and 171 deep-drains of Jammu city is being done by Transport Wing of JMC.
Later, Billawaria kick started cleanliness work of Nallah in ward-56 at Gangyal under Gandhi Nagar constituency. Billawaria asked officials to complete the cleaning work of Nallahs in Jammu city so that people do not face any problem due to these Nallahs during rainy season. “Every year, JMC starts de-silting work of deep drains but due to encroachment and depletion of width of Nallahs, water overflows at some places during rainy season thereby causing numerous hardships for people. Overall width of Nallahs has decreased to a great extent due to encroachment. Big nallahs have now been converted into small nallahs and small one into drains due to encroachment,” he added.
Billawaria urged the Lt Governor that a policy regarding smart drainage system be prepared keeping in view expansion of Jammu city in coming 20 years so that better drainage facilities could be provided to citizens of Jammu city.
Billawaria further said that those who have encroached Nallahs shall not be spared. “There shall be no discrimination in retrieving encroached Nallah land and compensation shall also be provided to those whose registered land comes into widening project. Jammu Smart City can’t be envisioned without Nallah widening work,” said Billawaria, urging people not to throw garbage in drains of their area under any circumstances and cooperate with JMC for keeping drains clean.
Gurdwara President Gurudev Singh, Ranjit Singh, Abhinandan Sharma, Romi Singh and Pankaj Singh were also present on the occasion.
