Major terror strike averted in Jammu, suspect nabbed with IED

Jammu: Averting a possible Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in Jammu city, the Jammu police on Sunday nabbed a suspect who was carrying explosive.
Senior Superintendent of Police Jammu, Chandan Kohli said that due to heightened security and alertness, manual surveillance through strong Nakas and foot patrolling has been going on at several places from several days.
On Sunday, Incharge Police Post Bathindi, SI Shabir Hussain Kohli alongwith other police personnel laid a Naka at Barmini road in Jammu whereby one person who was coming from Barmini towards Bathindi was carrying one yellow bag in his hand.
The said man on seeing police Naka party tried to run back towards Barmini which raised suspicion following which In-Charge Police Post Bathindi alongwith Naka party intervened and nabbed him.
The bag he was carrying was put to search and an Improvised Explosive Device (5.5 KGs) was recovered from him.
On sustained questioning, the suspect disclosed his name as Nadeem-ul-Haq son of Abdul Rehman resident of Zainhal, Tehsil Banihal, District Ramban.
On this, FIR NO 234/21 under sections 121/122 IPC, 13/18/23/38/39 UAP Act, 4/5 ESA has been registered at Police Station Bahu fort Jammu and investigation of the case has been entrusted to SDPO City East, Bikram Kumar.
During preliminary investigation it has been transpired that accused was in contact with the handlers from Pakistan and Shopian associated with LeT (TRF) who had given him task to plant IED in some crowded place in Jammu City.
Investigation into the matter is in nascent stage and more arrests are likely to be made.
SSP Jammu Chandan Kohli termed it as a major success for police as a possible major terror strike had been averted.
