Subhanarayan Satapathy
We cannot say that people lives in world without any problems or issues. If somebody lives without any issues or problems that person may be either God or Superman. But we know that every individual have health, wealth and other issues. The problems will persist with us until we live here. Among these issues or problem, the health issues are major concern for us. In such circumstances, we became disturbed, depress and discouraged. We feel helpless & hopeless, unhealthy or ill in sufferings of close relatives or ourselves. In this situation, hand of doctors is blessings for us. When we go nearby a doctor we feel somebody here to save us. When we under treatment we feel that doctor will definitely cures us. When we listen advice from doctor we became most attentive. Doctor with us builds our strength physically, psychologically and emotionally. It generates our confidence, credibility, self-reliance, trustworthy towards the healthy future. Presently in the COVID pandemic, the role of doctor is most vital and important in our society. They saved life of human during this life-threatening period, when everyone was in fear, apprehension and fighting against coronavirus to save their life. Meanwhile doctor plays exemplary role to save life providing continuous health service to people. Life is gracious. Its protection is desirous. So doctor is precious for us.
As per Journal of family medicine and primary care, 1.33 billion of Indian population is being served by 1.8 million registered medical graduates during 2017. This means that India has already reached WHO norm of 1:1,000 doctor population ratio even considering the most conservative estimates. Ethiopia is situated in Africa. This country is highly populated but the irony is that so many people live here, still, there is a scarcity of doctors with fewer than one doctor for every 36,000 people. Most doctors of Ethiopia move to private healthcare centers or to other countries where the Association of American Medical Colleges maintains a database of more than 135 specialties and sub-specialties Regardless of the specialty you choose, expect to put in anywhere from 10 to 14 years of education and training before you become a fully-licensed physician.
Some people says, doctors are often stereotyped for their bad handwriting. The researchers explained that majority of the poor handwriting of doctors is attributed to the times when doctors are in a rush when writing prescriptions, during their rounds or peak hours, or when they experienced fatigue. But we cannot deny that most of doctors have very beautiful hand writing.
Now in COVID situation, doctors are also available online as well as physical for treatment keeping in view of the interest of patient and limiting the spreading of diseases. Doctors are providing service at COVID hospital wearing mask, PPE for long hours. Their patience and dedication towards health services are praiseworthy. Since some cases violence against doctor are very shameful and shocking. These activities are very inhuman in nature. The community people should take responsibility to protect doctors and other health staff during treatment of patients. Because they relieve us from illness, pain and gives us a new life to live. Sometimes they became infected, because they treat infected patients. All should realize this fact. After all, the doctor has own life, family, relatives like us. They have rights to live and enjoy the life with their family, relatives.
A derived story based on a doctor. The story tells that, a doctor entered the hospital in hurry after being called in for an urgent surgery. Changed his clothes and went directly to the surgery block. He found the boy’s father going and coming in the hall waiting for the doctor. Immediately father of the boy asked to doctor, “Why did you take all this time to come? Don’t you know that my son’s life is in danger? Don’t you have the sense of responsibility?” The doctor smiled and said, “I am sorry, I wasn’t in the hospital and I came the fastest I could after receiving the call. And now, I wish you’d calm down so that I can do my work.” “Calm down? What if your son was in this room right now, would you calm down? If your own son dies now what will you do,” asked father angrily. The doctor smiled again and replied, “I will say. Doctors cannot prolong lives. Go and intercede for your son, we will do our best by God’s grace.” “Giving advice when we’re not concerned is so easy,” murmured the father. The surgery took some hours after which the doctor went out happy. “Thank goodness, your son is saved!” And without waiting for the father’s reply he carried on his way running. “If you have any question, ask the nurse. Why is he so arrogant? He couldn’t wait some minutes so that I ask about my son’s state,” commented the father when seeing the nurse minutes after the doctor left. The nurse answered, tears coming down her face, “His son died yesterday in a road accident. He was in the burial when we called him for your son’s surgery. And now that he saved your son’s life, he left running to finish his son’s burial.”
So, many stories are there which is about the medical heroes. Real warriors they are. It’s inspiring and heartbreaking at the same time. Some of our heroes scarified their life while saving patients from the pandemic. We should tribute them by following their every advice including social distance, mask, sanitizer. Again, we, our ward, every community people, stakeholders may greet to the warriors by sending greeting cards honoring noble profession of doctors on birth and death anniversary of the great physician and second chief minister of West Bengal, Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. This small work will change something big in our society which indicates our concern and respect towards doctors. Let’s celebrate National Doctor’s Day.
