Govt asks Committee to revise SRO 349

JAMMU: The Government of J&K has authorised the already nominated a seven-member committee vide order dated March 23 to review and incorporate necessary changes in the existing SRO 349, which guides appointment of outstanding sportspersons. The order issued by Commissioner/Secretary, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi shall also examine the desirability of considering appointment on Gazetted Posts.
The fresh order No. 564-JK (GAD) of 2021 dated 30-06-2021 reads: In partial modification to earlier order issued on March 23, 2021, the terms of reference of the committee constituted to revise the criteria for shortlisting the outstanding sportspersons for appointment against the posts earmarked under sports quota in terms of J&K (Appointment of Outstanding Sportsperons) Rules 1998, shall also include a comprehensive review of the existing rules besides examining the desirability of considering appointment on Gazetted posts.
Important to mention here that given the mandate to overhaul the rules pertaining to sports in J&K, the committee had included five new sports disciplines of Baseball, Netball, Pencak Silat, Triathlon and Ice-Hockey under SRO 349 in an order issued on April 27 last. Furthermore, in view of the pending litigations, the quota of jobs for the outstanding sportspersons has piled up in the last five years to around 130. As and when the new look SRO 349 is finalised and put into use a good number of sports achievers may get a suitable job.
