Jammu: NSS Unit 1 of GGM Science College celebrates Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav on theme Van Mahotsav Week with message to care, nuture and love plants concluded on Saturday. The week long programme consist of introduction cum panel discussion, planting of sapling, poster making, assay writing, quiz competition and webinar was organized under the guidance of worthy Principal Dr. R. K. Tickoo and supervision of Dr. Narinder Kumar NSS PO.
Dr. Ravender Tickoo who was the chief guest stressed upon the audience to follow all precautions and steps to protect and preserve green gold as they are lungs of the fauna. In this way, all efforts percolate to the masses. Worthy principal of the college while speaking on the occasion said such workshop are essential for awareness like the global warming .
On the sixth day of the programme, a webinar was organized. Sh. O.P.Vidyarathi IFS, a retired PCCF was the key resource person on the occassion. In his lecture, Vidyarathi threw a detailed light on the history, and objectives of week long forest festival and steps to be taken to spread the such awareness among the masses for planting more and more saplings. He added each one plant one sapling with special focus on medicinal plants.
He underlined that forest are source of herbs, timber and other forest products.
He further added to involve rural people, NGOs, gram sabha, NSS volunteers, NCC cadets of schools and higher institutions in order for planting the saplings. The invasive alien plants species like parthenium hysterophorus, Lantana camara, xanthenium strumarium, Eichhornia crassipes could be altered by other useful, he added.
Earlier, Dr. Narinder Kumar in his welcome address, he introduced the audience about the importance of Van Mahotsav. He emphasized that it is moral duty of every citizen of India to plant as much sapling as your family members are. He added plant more tree to have more life which maintain healthy soil and improved humidity levels in the atmosphere. A week long programme was concluded with pledge Don’t make trees rare, keep them with care.
Large no. of students had joined the webinar by means of social media displaying banners/posters to disseminate maximum awareness in order to make the programme meaningful. At the end of the program, no. of NSS volunterrs, who had joined the webinar from different colleges of Jammmu and Kashmir UT, took a pledge to plant saplings and protect our forest. The webinar ended with a special vote of thanks by Dr. Narinder Kumar. Technical support was provided by Seemab, Shubham and in organizing the webinar.
