JAMMU: International spiker from border district of Poonch in J&K, Saqlain Tariq, along with 23 other players, has been called for the India camp for 21st Asian Senior Men’s Volleyball Championship to be held at Japan.
A South Asian Youth games medalist and part of the U-Mumba team for the Professional Volleyball League, Saqlain has achieved the milestone of becoming part of the senior probable for the National camp.
“He has made everyone back home in J&K feel proud of his achievements. From a modest beginning of representing J&K in the School Games to joining an academy in Punjab, Saqlain has made a lot of progress through his hardwork and determination to achieve the higher goals,” said Saqlain’s father, coach and mentor, Mohd Tariq Khan.
Saqlain earned a name for himself at the National level when he was brought for a higher bid of Rs 11 lakh by the top professional club of U-Mumba of Mumbai.
Both father-son duo are so passionate about the game of Volleyball that they always guide those youngsters of Poonch as and when they were in the town.
“Saqlain never missed the ground and always inspire those youngsters learning the basics of the game of Volleyball in Poonch,” said Mohd Tariq.
In fact, Saqlain belongs to a family which has devoted to the game of Volleyball. “I have received tremendous support from the family to grow as a professional player. My father is a coach and serves with UT’s Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) while my elder brother is also a coach, so all three male members of the family have love the game of Volleyball,” said Saqlain, who has joined the Indian Navy.
Since he has joined the Indian Navy in the recent past, he has been invited to the India camp as a player from Services.
