JAMMU: Congress has taken strong exception to the indifferent attitude of the UT administration towards the genuine demands of trained dental surgeons, whose number is over 7000 in J&K, but no posts have been created for them for the last 13 years, post 2008.
Briefing media persons in the presence of a team of Trained Dental Surgeons Association at the PCC HQ here on Monday, JKPCC Chief Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma regretted that no posts were created for these trained doctors after 2008 despite acute shortage of dental surgeons in the hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir.
“This is sheer injustice with the trained doctors whose number has swell to over 7000 so far, while over 500 Dental Doctors are added per year,” he added. The representatives of dental doctors explained their grievances to the Ravinder Sharma and urged for their support.
Sharma said that WHO and IPHS norms provide one dental surgeon for 7500 persons in urban areas and one dental surgeon for 10000 in Rural areas but as per dental Association there is be one dental surgeon for over 50-60 thousand population in Jammu and Kashmir, which amounts to playing with dental health of citizens.
On the other hand 226 dental doctors are trained in Govt. Dental College and other in J&K per year while more than this get training from outside colleges, thus per year their number goes up by over 500, with dark future for the educated youngers.
Sharma termed it gross injustice with the young brilliant youth and their families, who get these training with the hope to serve the people and get jobs.
Despite repeated pleas by them over the years and a hunger strike in 2014, they were assured absorption in Govt. Jobs but not a single doctor/candidate was absorbed as no creation or recruitment through PSC took place to their utter betrayal by the dispensations, which is unfortunate and exploitation of educated youth, Sharma alleged.
The DHS Jammu projected their demands for creation of posts citing minimum requirement of 297 posts as per census 2011 but not a single post was created so far and they are running from pillar to post. The Congress party fully supports their justified and genuine demand and urged the LG and Chief Secretary to immediately address their demand for creation of required number of posts to give them chance of recruitment at the earliest otherwise party cadres will join their agitational programme to press the Govt.
