JAMMU: Shri Ram Sena, J&K unit, has threatened to launch mass agitation against the BJP led Government in the Centre for depriving Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs communities from sale and purchase of agricultural land and taking up farming as a profession.
Addressing media persons here today, Rajiv Mahajan, President Shri Ram Sena, J&K unit said that with the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A from the erstwhile state on August 5, 2019, large sections of people including West Pakistani refugees, Valmikis etc who were deprived of their genuine rights by previous successive Governments got their due rights but it is extremely unfortunate that the Mahajan, Khatri and Sikh communities residing in the Jammu and Kashmir since 1947 have deprived from selling and purchase of agriculture land with amendment in the existing State Land Law.
Mahajan reiterated that more than 10 lakh Mahajans, over five lakh Khatris and lakhs of Sikhs have been deprived of their fundamental right to buy or sell agricultural land as these communities didn’t figure in the list of “non-agriculturists” under Section 6 of obsolete J&K Alienation of Land Act (No V of 1995 Samvat) enacted in Maharaja Hari Singh’s time and repealed on October 26, 2020 along with half a dozen other land laws.
“The ‘casteist’ provision was incorporated in J&K Land Revenue Act of Samvat 1996,” he added.
Mahajan said that the J&K BJP leadership has misguided the Central Government as one of its Member Parliament of Jammu Poonch Constituency is from Brahmin community and another Member Parliament of Udhampur Doda Kathua Constituency from Rajput community.
He reminded the BJP Government at the Centre that BJP has got a massive mandate in 2014 Assembly elections as a result in the history of erstwhile state that BJP has managed to get 25 seats.
He asserted that BJP got a massive mandate from people of all sections of society in the 2014 Assembly elections, not only from Brahmin and Rajput communities.
He said Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs communities have a lot of agriculture land in R.S Pura and nearby areas from where they are producing world famous Basmati rice then why they are deprived of aforesaid facility of purchasing and selling agriculture land.
Rajiv Mahajan termed the new land law as brazenly unfair and asked the Central Government to re-examine the law and immediately amend J&K Land Revenue Act in order to do away with this suo-moto bureaucratic conspiracy against Mahajans, Khatris and Sikhs.
He threatened to launch mass agitation from August 1, 2021 if the Central Government failed to do justice with the aforesaid three communities before July 31.
Among others who were present in the press conference included Devender Seth President Vishal Khatri Sabha, Jaswinder Singh (Kuku) Social Activist and others.
