JAMMU: Despite tall claims by the government, first Monsoon rain on Tuesday once again exposed the poor drainage system of Jammu city. The rains caused severe water logging in Jammu city resulting in immense inconveniences to commuters.
This was observed by former Minister, Raman Bhalla after visiting interior of Nanak Nagar, Last Morh area of Gandhi Nagar constituency.
He was accompanied by Sonu Singh, Vijay Chib, Raju Katyal, Kaka Vipin, Viju beside others.
He was told that several roads, by-lanes of Nanak Nagar have been under water, causing immense hardships to the public.
The problem was compounded by defunct drainage system in various areas, he said adding that the choked drains, according to locals led to water logging in various city localities. He said there are some places that face water logging because of poor drainage system and unplanned constructions.
Bhalla said Monsoon rain wreak havoc in Nanak Nagar area damaging houses, boundary walls, uprooting roads.
Water-logging took place in many of the residential colonies in Jammu City including Green Belt Park, Gandhi Nagar, several sectors of Nanak Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Ambedker Nagar, Diagana, Udham Singh Nagar, Gangyal, Krishna Nagar, Rajinder Nagar, Kabir Colony, and other localities.
Bhalla slammed tall claims of ‘development’ by BJP Govt which were ruptured by first monsoon rainfall in Jammu.
Bhalla strongly resented that litter spread on roads, streets after monsoon rain is laying as it is and no one from concerned authorities has come to remove it.
Former Minister claimed that waterlogging at many places, garbage and litter on city roads and streets, dirty water gushing out of the sewerage holes, blocked drains and entering residential houses and shops are gifts of BJP Govt to people of Jammu who have been cheated and betrayed in the name of development so far during the last seven years.
He questioned unpreparedness of concerned authorities which was supposed to de-silt drains and Nallahs much before the start of rainy season to avoid damages.
