STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: A Congress Party meeting of Ward No. 15 of Jammu (East) was held under the guidance of former Minister J&K Yogesh Sawhney. He interacted with residents of the area who apprised him of various issues that have been troubling them. Some of the main issues that came up during the discussions were the dismal condition of roads and lanes and that there is poor drainage and sanitation system in place in the area. People complained that in most parts of the area roadside drains and water channels are open, often overflowing and cause an inconvenience and unhygienic situation. The meeting was organised by Raj Kumar Sodhi, Ward President. Along with Yogesh Sawhney, senior Congress leaders including Suresh Dogra, Ritu Choudhary, Dr Ramakanth Khajuria, Chandershekhar Sharma, Atul Sharma, Gurmeet Singh, Ram Magotra, Anil Kumar, Surinder Dogra, Ajay Kumar, Madhu, Vinay Kumar, Deepak Babloo, Bunty Gupta, Surinder Mahajan, Rohit Sodhi, and Sunil Kumar were present at the meeting. Speaking on the matter, Sawhney said that old Jammu city is in totally worse shape due to lack of maintenance and development works. The situation is so bad that residents, shopkeepers and local businesses have taken it upon themselves to fix the lanes and drainage in their neighbourhood. No steps are taken by either any concerned councillors or by any other authorities in the matter. The former Minister further questioned the Mayor about his negligible approach towards old Jammu city. Sawhney said that the Mayor recently ‘predicted’ that there will be snowfall in Jammu city by 2031-32. “According to his prediction then, the Mayor and authorities must definitely ensure that they strengthen the drainage and sanitation system in Jammu city,” Sawhney said. Keeping that in mind we urge the administration to not only improve the sanitation system in Jammu but also increase the funds allocated for this purpose.
