JAMMU: Bharatiya Yog Sanasthan (BYS) celebrates 30th July every year as Smriti Divas in memory of its founder Late Prakash Lal.
BYS was founded by him in the year 1967 with its first Branch in Delhi. He was of the firm conviction that since Yoga is the gift of India to the world so it needs to be taught by Indians and not by the foreigners as was prevalent at that time.
Since then, the Sanasthan has grown and established over 4000 yog kendras through the country and also in 10 foreign countries.
Yoga at these centres is taught free of cost by volunteers as per the principles enshrined by its founder. The maxim “Jio our Jeevan do” is the driving force.
BYS Jammu celebrated 12th Smriti Diwas in its Ashram at Gole Gujral in a function on Sunday which was attended by a good number of Yog Sadhaks.
Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta was the Chief Guest of the function. Satpal Karlupia, Corporator Ward 32, Vijay Saraf, leading businessman and Advocate Rameshwar Singh were also present.
Mayor paid rich tributes to the founder of BYS and appreciated the role of Sanasthan in promoting good health in the society.
He spoke about the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Smart City Project in Jammu.
He said BYS Sadhaks can be messengers for promotion of the smart and clean city project for Jammu.
President of the Sansthan, Satya Pal welcomed the Chief Guest. Paying tributes to the founder late Prakash Lal, he recalled various anecdotes from his life regarding his commitments, convictions and simplicity.
He said that in J&K, Bharatiya Yog Sansthan is running 125 Yoga Sadhana Kendras in and around Jammu, Samba and Udhampur.
Yoga at these centres is taught daily by expert volunteers (Shikshaks) of the Sansthan free of cost, he said. These classes are attended by a large number of people, both men and women, of all age groups on regular basis.
In view of the COVID-19 Pandemics, he said, Sansthan is running online Yog Sadhana
classes for those who
hesitate to attend the classes physically.
