Kathua: A truck jumped a railway barrier near an army camp in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, prompting a search which led to the seizure of the vehicle along with eight kg of poppy straw, officials said on Sunday.
However, the driver of the vehicle escaped taking advantage of the darkness and efforts are on to nab him, they said.
As per the details, a team of Police Station Kathua under the supervision of Insp. Om Parkash Chib SHO Kathua during Naka checking duty at Logate Morh Kathua noticed one suspicious truck (JK02AQ-2395), moving from Jammu towards Lakhanpur, being driven by unknown person who was signalled to stop for checking. Sensing danger driver of the aforesaid vehicle broke the police Naka and escaped from the spot alongwith vehicle. In a bid to escape police chase, the driver drove vehicle in a rash and negligent manner, endangering human lives and hit 2 barriers at Railway Crossing Link road Janglote Kathua. Taking advantage of darkness he managed to flee from the spot.
During checking approx. 08 kilograms of poppy straw like contraband was recovered from the aforesaid vehicle along with a Driving License No. JK08-0820150004180 and Voter Card No. LNM0223669 of Talib Hussain, son of Qasim Din, resident of Basantpur Tehsil &District Kathua and 01 Adhaar Card No. 848492522181 of Ranjit Singh, son of Baldev Singh, resident of Digiana Jammu were also recovered. Thereafter all the recovered contraband like item was seized and search was started to trace the accused. FIR No. 356/2021 under section 8/15 of NDPS Act,279/336/IPC, 3/Prevention of Damage Public Property Act has been registered at Police Station Kathua.
