2.60 qtl polythene seized; Rs 26,600 fine recovered

SAMBA: In compliance directions issued by Government, the authorities of Municipal Committee, Bari Brahmana along with Pollution Control Board, District Samba (North) on Monday conducted a massive anti-polythene drive in the town. The inspection team was headed by Jodh Raj, Executive Officer and included Ravinder Kumar Gupta, Assistant Sanitation Officer, Kamal Kishore (Head Assistant) and other officials of Tax Section and Khilafwarzi Section of Municipal Committee, Bari Brahmana along with Sanjay Rathore, Divisional Officer, Pollution Control Board Samba (North), Naveed Choudhary (Field Inspector) and Pankaj Chadha (Field Inspector).
During the drive, the team seized approximately 2.60 Qtl polythene carry-bags of below 50 microns and recovered a fine of Rs 26,600 (Rs. 16,000 by PCB and Rs. 10,600 by MC Bari Brahmana).
During the drive, the officials also educated Shopkeepers / Street Vendors / Hawkers about guidelines of the Pollution Control Board and urged them to avoid use of polythene bags below 50 microns. The Municipal Committee, Bari Brahmana handed over seized polythene carry-bags to Pollution Control Board for proper disposal.
