RAJOURI: A 24-year-old youth was murdered inside his house in Rajouri district late last night, prompting locals to block the Jammu-Poonch highway on Wednesday in protest for over six hours. Moreover, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri also faced public wrath for reaching late at the site where victim’s family members were on protest.
Police said, “on Wednesday morning, information was received that during the night, some unidentified armed men entered the house of one Bachan Lal, resident of Chakli and attacked his son, Ankush Bakshi, with sharp edged weapons, who died on the spot following severe injuries,”
Based on this, police said, FIR 538/20210 under section 302 and 458 IPC has been registered at Police Station Rajouri and investigation started. “A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by DySP headquarters, Rajouri has been constituted for speedy investigation of the case,” the police added.
Later a police party reached the spot and recovered “weapon of offense”. The police team also took the body into possession for medico-legal formalities.
Reports said that the unknown assailants entered house of Ankush Bakshi and stabbed him to death while he was asleep.
Earlier family members joined by relatives and neighbours staged a protest on Rajouri-Poonch highway, demanding those behind the “brutal murder” be brought to justice. The protesters, who also burnt tyres on road, dispersed after assurances from Rajouri SSP Sheema Nabi Qasba. In the meantime, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Rajesh K Shavan, who reached the spot to pacify the protesters late in the evening faced public wrath for being casual in responding to the situation.
“We were expecting you to reach us before everyone but you seem to have some different priorities”, some of the protesters lamented.
In a sarcastic remark, one of the protesters was heard saying, “You reach at the inaugurations and other events five minutes before the schedule time but when there was a brutal murder, you failed to reach the victims’ family to console them”. Locals are demanding the immediate arrest of the murderers.
