JAMMU: Amidst allegations of sub-standard works under ‘Augmentation of Sports Infrastructure’ Scheme, the Government of Union Territory has ordered probe with the constitution of three-member high level committee.
Led by Director Finance, Youth Services and Sports Department, Lateef Ahmad Poswal, the committee included Executive Engineer, J&K Sports Council, Hilal Ahmed Sheikh and Joint Director, DYSS, Bashir Ahmad Ganai as members.
The committee shall submit its report along with its recommendations within 15 days, an order issued in this regard by the Principal Secretary to the Government, YSS Department, Alok Kumar.
As per the order, the copy of which lying with SAN mentioned that the Committee shall inquire into the sub-standard execution of the aforementioned works; identify the offers/officials who failed to perform their legitimate duties and recommend the necessary action against these officers/officials and the measures to check execution of such sub-standard works in future.
Meanwhile, the ongoing work at the Hockey Astroturf in Poonch has crossed many deadlines. So, it needs a visit by the Committee.
Furthermore, at Poonch, the contractor was seen mixing the concrete for laying the base of the turf with the help of a JCB and not the mixers.
So much so, the agency involved in the execution of the work has forgot to add the Tubewell, the most important component of a Synthetic Astroturf as part of the ongoing multi-crore project.
