Three pedestrians crushed to death; locals protest, accused arrested

KATHUA: Police on Friday under overall supervision of SSP Kathua R C Kotwal, solved hit and run case within hours of incident on Friday in which three pedestrians died. An accused was arrested and vehicle was seized by the police. Earlier, locals and relatives of the deceased staged protest and raised slogans against police.
As per details, on August 19, 2021 a speedy Scorpio (HP13-2488) crushed three pedestrians who were walking on roadside near Muthi Jagir near Temple, after which accused fled away. Acting swiftly, Police team of Police Station Kathua led by Insp Om Parkash Chib SHO Police Station Kathua under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Kathua Shammi Kumar, traced out involved vehicle along with driver, who was identified as Rakesh Kumar, son of Ram Lal, resident of Rakh Hushiari Tehsil Marheen, Kathua. The accused was arrested and vehicle was also seized. The three pedestrians, who died on spot, were identified as Sunil Kumar (22), son of Prem Nath; Chandan Kumar (14), son of Tara Chand and Aniket Sharma (18), son of Ghara Ram, all were residents of Muthi Jagir Nagri. Kathua Police instantly took cognizance and acting swiftly, solved the Hit and Run case. Police registered a case FIR no 384/2021 under sections 279/304A of IPC at Police Station Kathua.
