JAMMU: J&K Climbers, Shivani Charak, women’s top ranked in India and Arun Deep Singh, the 3rd ranked in the boys category, on Tuesday reached Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi from Delhi to attend a week-long Refresher Training camp in Sport Climbing, prior to their selection trials for various international competitions.
“Since there is neither a Speed Climbing wall nor a Bouldering wall in J&K, the only climbing infrastructure available is just a basic climbing wall in a private school at Jammu and another simple lead climbing wall at Srinagar, both the climbers were deputed by the Association to Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF), New Delhi where they had been undergoing
rigorous practice and training for over one month as a part of their preparation for the forthcoming International competitions,” informed Ram Khajuria.
Whereas Arun Deep Singh was preparing for IFSC Climbing Youth World Championship, Shivani has set eyes on participation in the 18th edition of IFSC Climbing World Championship scheduled to be held in Moscow, Russia from September 15 to September 22.
“With J&K Sports Council not sponsoring the ace climbers even for training/ practice purposes at IMF, New Delhi, Zorawar Singh Jamwal, president Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK) and Ram Khajuria, president Tawi Trekkers J&K have pledged their full support to the climbers for their training as well as their participation in the international events,” informed general secretary of MAJK, Shwetica Khajuria.
