AOI Jammu holds CME on ‘Management of Head & Neck Cancers’

JAMMU: American Oncology Institute at ASCOMS Hospital, Jammu on Saturday organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on ‘Management of Head and Neck Cancers-AOI Jammu experience’ in collaboration with Department of ENT SMGS Hospital, Jammu.
The recent data from Jammu region regarding head and neck cancer was analysed and was presented by Dr. Vikas Roshan who is a Radiation Oncology Consultant at AOI Jammu.
It was mentioned that AOI Jammu has treated more than 150 patients successfully in last one and half years with good results. The toxicity associated with treatment was much reduced with state of the art, Varian Linear Accelerator installed at AOI Jammu at ASCOMS Hospital. It was revealed that latest radiotherapy techniques are time tested and doing wonders in head and neck cancers with supporting data. Moreover, the role of PET-CT was also discussed regarding diagnosis, treatment, prognosis and follow up of head and neck cancers.
Dr. Mhd. Izhar Ali, who is the Consultant for Nuclear Medicine at AOI Jammu, said that AOI has all cancer treatment facilities under one roof and is the only cancer facility providing PET-CT in Jammu city. He also told that recently PSMA-PET Scan has also been started at AOI Jammu and now the Prostate Cancer patients do not need to travel to other states for PSMA Scan.
The role of chemotherapy was also discussed in detail in head and neck cancer by Dr. Nadeem Shoket, Consultant Medical Oncologist at AOI Jammu.
He said that AOI provides Comprehensive Cancer Care with all branches of Oncology like Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Surgical Oncology along with team of Intensive Care Specialists led by Dr. Atul Sharma and that with a dedicated and comprehensive approach, they have seen some very good results in the head & neck cancer patients over the last couple of years.
The post graduate students of ENT Department of SMGS Hospital, Jammu also presented their research project under the guidance of Dr. Parmod Kalsotra (Prof &Head of ENT department, SMGS Hospital) who is a renowned ENT surgeon in Jammu region.
They discussed the role of surgery in head and neck cancers and the recent advancements. The chairpersons at the CME included the eminent faculty from Jammu region like Dr Satish Mehta (Professor ENT ASCOMS), Dr Sunil Kotwal (Ex HOD, Consultant SMVDNH), Dr Anil Suri (Prof & Head GMCH Kathua), Dr Padamdev Singh Jamwal (Prof ENT) & Dr K P Singh(Prof ENT) will also grace the function.
