PIB Jammu, FOB Doda organise webinar on ‘Unsung Heroes of India’s Freedom Struggle’

JAMMU: Press Information Bureau (PIB) Jammu, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India organised a webinar on ‘The Unsung Heroes of India’s Freedom Struggle’ by commemorating the freedom fighters, the unsung heroes of India’s independence. The webinar is being organised under the theme ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’. In his address, Sheikh Mudasir Amin paying rich tributes to the unsung heroes of India’s independence said that the aim of conducting this kind of a webinar is to make youth aware about the sacrifices made by these freedom fighters during the freedom struggle against the British colonialism. Vijay Kumar, Assistant Professor, GDC Ramban, while paying tributes to Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay, said that she was a freedom fighter, an actor, a social activist, an art enthusiast, and a feminist rolled into one, and left a massive mark in India’s independence and culture. He further said that she was greatly inspired by Gandhian ideas and the concept of non-violence and also a key figure in the international socialist feminist movement. Bharat Singh, Assistant Professor, GDC Ramban in her tribute to Matangini Hazra said that Hazra became so inspired by Gandhi’s beliefs that she became a devoted follower of the leader, earning herself the name, “Gandhi Buri”. Praising her indomitable spirit, she said that despite the number of times Hazra was assaulted by British authorities and imprisoned for her revolutionary work, she remained resolutely devoted to the cause of freedom from British rule.
Driti Sharma, student, GDC Ramban in her address about the contribution of Tirupur Kumaran during the freedom struggle said that he was a great freedom fighter who only lived for 27 years but etched his name in the history of the freedom struggle of India & died while holding the flag of India which had been banned by the British in India then, thus earned the name ‘Kodi Kaatha Kumaran’ in Tamil which means ‘Kumaran who protected the flag’.
Besides students and teachers, the webinar was attended by Khursheed Yousuf, Field Publicity Officer, Udhampur, Gurnaam Singh in charge Field Outreach Bureau, Rajouri, Vijay Matoo, in charge Field Outreach Bureau, Kathua. The webinar was moderated by Rajesh Sharma, in charge FOB, Doda.
