JAMMU: Former Mayor Jammu Ch Manmohan Singh asserted that gyms and sports can play a pivotal role in keeping youth away from the scourge of drugs and alcohol.
This was stated by Ch Manmohan Singh, Ex Mayor Jammu while inaugurating an open gym facility near the parking slot of Gurdwara Nanak Nagar in Sector 2 here on Monday.
Karan Singh Wazir, son of late Tarlochan Singh Wazir also accompanied during the inauguration of the gym.
The gym was inaugurated in the memory of late Vijay Chowdhary (Ex Corporator JMC Ward No. 42 ) and Tarlochan Singh Wazir (Ex Chairman J&K SGPB).
Pertinent to mention here that the work for the construction of this open gym was sanctioned by the former Corporator late Vijay Choudhary during her tenure. Ch Manmohan, while addressing the gathering, said that the teen age is a tender age and people should take extra care during this phase of life of their children to keep them away from drug abuse.
He said that gyms and other sporting activities provide an opportunity to the young kids to vent their extra energy in the right direction instead of falling prey to drugs and alcohol.
He said that the open gym facility which has been opened today will help in channelizing the energy of the youth towards positivity and will go a long way in crafting their bright future.
Ch Manmohan Singh disclosed that, due to keen interest and cooperation of his wife Vijay Chowdhary, who was corporator of this ward and also the cooperation of late Tarlochan Singh Wazir and entire committee of local Gurdwara Sahib, this open gym facility has been accomplished for the benefit of general public.
He asked the people to make optimum use of the facility and make their children healthy and mentally sound.
Karan Singh also asked the youth to take benefit of this facility in leading a healthy life. He said that health is the ultimate wealth because without good health nothing is worth.
DGPC Secretary Fateh Singh, Manmohan Singh Member DGPC Jammu, Inder Singh Soodan Corporator ward-44, Anita Sharma Corporator, Rajinder Singh President local Gurdwara Sahib, Narinder Singh Khalsa, Manjit Singh Secretary local Gurdwara Sahib along with entire Gurdwara committee, Ranjit Singh President Tankers Union, Parveen Singh, Harasis Singh, Jatinder Singh Lucky, Harmanan Singh, Ravinder Singh, Ajmeet Singh, Balwinder Singh, Navtej Singh, Bittu and Purple were also present.
