
134 fresh cases, 2 more deaths in J&K

Srinagar: While Jammu and Kashmir’s coronavirus caseload increased to 3,39,124 on Tuesday as 134 more people tested positive for the infection, the death toll climbed to 4,500 with two more fatalities and three areas in Jammu City peripheries have been declared as micro-containment zones in view of detection of rising infection cases.
In view of the situation emerging due to COVID-19, District Magistrate (DM) Jammu, Anshul Garg has declared Ghulab Colony near Sultana Masjid, Bathindi of Tehsil Bahu falling under Police Station Bahu Fort; Sector No 4, Channi Himmat of Tehsil Bahu falling under Police Station Channi Himmat; and Sector No 2, Vinayak Nagar, Muthi of Tehsil Jammu North falling under Police Station Janipur as Micro Containment Zones.
As per order issued by DM Jammu, these areas shall be under strict lockdown and tight perimeter control, except for essential needs.
“There shall be no movement, whatsoever, in and out of the Micro Containment zones and for any medical emergency, individuals can contact the 24X7 control room at 0191-2571616, 0191-2571912 and necessary facilitation shall be done,” the order stated.
“It shall be mandatory for the persons residing in designated Containment Zones to get themselves tested and any refusal in this regard shall invite legal action including filing of FIR under relevant provisions of Disaster Management Act,” it stated and added, “The Magistrate and SHO concerned of the area shall ensure that 100 per cent sampling and testing is done.”
It is further ordered that the Tehsildar concerned shall be the overall incharge for enforcement of Micro Containment SOPs in the notified zones.
Chief Medical Officer, Jammu shall ensure deployment of sufficient teams for sampling and surveillance of the designated zones. He shall ensure contact tracing of positives and their testing as per the SOP.
“Any violation of this order shall invite punitive action under section 188 of Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections of Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and the Disaster Management Act, 2005,” the order stated.
Meanwhile, of the fresh cases across the Union Territory, 31 were from the Jammu division and 103 from the Kashmir division of the union territory, they said.
Srinagar district recorded the highest number of new cases at 44, followed by 26 in Baramulla district.
Officials said that two Covid related fatalities were reported from the Valley during the past 24 hours.
The number of active coronavirus cases in Jammu and Kashmir stands at 1,427. So far, 3,33,197 people have recovered from the infection, the officials said.
There are 50 mucormycosis (black fungus) cases in the union territory. No fresh case has been reported since last evening.
Meanwhile, Ladakh has reported 17 fresh Covid cases, taking the tally to 21,839 while the active cases in the union territory have gone down to 178, officials said. The union territory has recorded 216 Covid-related deaths — 158 in Leh and 58 in Kargil — since the outbreak of the pandemic last year, they said
Twenty nine patients were cured and discharged from hospitals from Ladakh.
All the fresh cases were reported in Ladakh, they said, adding 562 sample reports in Ladakh were found negative.
The total number of COVID-19 active cases in Ladakh has gone down to 178 including 164 in Leh and 14 in Kargil district.
