ICAR-CAZRI organises awareness programme on ‘Natural Farming’

LEH: ICAR-Central Arid Zone Research Institute, Regional Research Station Leh Union Territory of Ladakh organised a one-day awareness programme on ‘Natural Farming’ at Nang Village Leh on Friday.
This is being promoted as Bharatiya Prakritik Krishi Paddhati Programme (BPKP) under Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY).
Stanzin Landol (STA) ICAR-CAZRI, RRS Leh welcomed the guest & farmers participants.
Following which Dr. Changchuk Lamo, (Scientist) ICAR-CAZRI, RRS Leh presented a detail presentation on ‘Natural Farming’ which is a chemical free, traditional farming method and also presented an overview of website launched by NITI Aayog where she stressed on traditional indigenous practices which reduces externally purchased inputs and also improves the environment, soil and human health simultaneously and also explained some local formulations of seed treatment & plant protection methods which are natural and eco-friendly. STO Jigmat Stanzin briefed about the ‘Importance of conservation of our traditional seeds’ and emphasized on practicing traditional indigenous farming methods suitable for the arid region. Stanzin Landol talked on ‘Agroforestry practices in Cold Arid Ladakh’ and its benefits to improve livelihood for the farming community of cold arid while technician Mohd Raza enlightened the house on ‘Seed storage Methods’ and its importance. During the programme, staff of ICAR-CAZRI, RRS Leh Stakna including Dr. Changchuk Lamo (Scientist), Jigmat Stanzin (STO), Stanzin Landol (STA), Sr. Technician Rigzin Dorjey and Mohd Raza were present besides many other participants including Sarpanch, Panches and farmers of Nang village.
Village sarpanch Rinchen Dolkar on behalf of her people appreciated the work contribution by CAZRI, RRS Leh in Nang Village since long back.
