Wanted in extortion cases, Jammu police arrests Royal Singh from Delhi

JAMMU: Wanted in a series of extortion cases, a three-member team from Jammu Police arrested notorious gangster Royal Singh from New Delhi where he was hiding following the series of complaints after his release from the jail on the court orders.
Royal Singh was arrested in Amandeep Murder case in 2009 and was operating a racket from inside the jail also. After his release on court orders, Royal started operating another racket from New Delhi for extortion, betting and gambling. After a series of complaints, Jammu police constituted a team of officers to nab him. “On transit remand he is being shifted to Jammu,” sources said, adding, “now he will be produced before court in Jammu from further remand”.
On April 17, 2022, Gandhi Nagar police had taken custody of Royal Singh, who at that time was lodged in Central Jail Kot Bhalwal and was undergoing imprisonment for lifeterm, in the firing case.
“Royal Singh, son of Manjeet Singh, a resident of Mohallah Dalpatian, Jammu was the main conspirator in the firing on contractor Choudhary Nagar Singh’s residence at Gandhi Nagar”, police said.
On April 3, 2021, an FIR was registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar after some unknown persons opened fire on the residence of Nagar Singh.
In the firing, no one was injured. However, the main gate of the house and a car (HP38F-6187) suffered damages. Cartridges were also recovered fromin and outside the residence of the contractor.
It is pertinent to mention that six persons identified as Ajay Singh, driver of Superintendent Central Jail Kot Bhawal namely Kuldeep Kumar, a resident of Tali Morh, Gurpreet Singh alias Honey, son of Baljeet Singh, a resident of Swaran Vihar Gole Gujaral, Deepak Kumar, son of Radhe Sham of New Plot, Surinder Kumar alias Babu, son of Ashok Kumar, a resident of Khour Salaria Ramgarh and Jasvir Singh alias Kaka, son of Gian Singh, a resident of Agra Chak RS Pura District Jammu were arrested in this case.
Later, all the accused were released on bail and on January 7, 2022, in the much publicised Amandeep Singh murder case, a three Judges Bench of Supreme Court granted bail to Royal Singh, who was undergoing life imprisonment.
After hearing the counsel for Royal Singh, the Supreme Court had observed, “the petitioner has already suffered incarceration for a period of more than 12 years and more particularly the fact that there is not much likelihood of the hearing of the appeal preferred by him before the High Court in near future, we deem it appropriate to grant bail to the petitioner”.
The Supreme Court had directed that the petitioner be enlarged on bail on terms and conditions to be imposed by the trial court. Now after his release, being a habitual criminal Royal Singh against started extortion and betting trade. Jammu police on several complaints conducted the raid and arrested him from Delhi.
