JAMMU: 34th J&K UT Senior Volleyball Championship for Men & Women was declared open by the Chief Guest, Chandan Kohli, SSP-Jammu at M.A. Stadium, Jammu on Saturday.
The 3-day championship being organised by Volleyball Association of J&K under the aegis of J&K Sports Council in which total 32 teams (20 in men and 12 in women section ) from all across the Union Territory of J&K are in the fray and toiling hard to clinch the championship.
Almost all the districts of J&K except Kishtwar district are participating in true sportsman spirits inculcating the sports culture and to shun the menace of various social evils with special reference to drug addiction.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest underlined the importance of sports among youth in improving all round development of the country. He also called upon the youth to make the nation strong by eradicating all social evils from the society with special emphasis on drug trafficking.
The Chief Guest assured the youth of JK UT that Police Department is working hard to bring transformation in the society especially among youth for their upliftment.
The chief guest was introduced to all participating teams by Raj Daluja Patron-in-chief, Sidharth Daluja President, H.S Gill Executive Vice President, Kuldeep Magotra CEO, R.C Sharma Treasurer and other office bearers of the Volleyball Association of J&K.
Earlier welcoming dignitaries, V.K Magotra General Secretary of Volleyball Association of J&K gave an account of the Association’s activities highlighting the historical achievements of J&K Boy’s Volleyball team’s in securing the third position for the first time at All India level competition in the recent 48th Junior National Volleyball championship held recently at Jammu.
The Chief Guest, Chandan Kohli was honored by Sidharth Daluja, President VAJK by presenting a memento on the occasion.
Kulbir Handa SP North Jammu and Rajeev Sharma Member J&K Sports Council were Special Guests of Honour and were presented mementos on the occasion.
Among dignitaries Nusrat Gazala DSO (central), Ashok Singh DSO (J), Manmeet Singh President Kho-Kho Association JK UT and large numbers of office bearers of various J&K sports associations graced the opening ceremony function of the championship.
The matches are being conducted by a panel of qualified National referees of Volleyball Federation of India as well as state referees of JK UT. The inaugural match was played between Anantnag and Samba in men section which was won by Anantnag.
