During the first phase of assembly polls in Chhattisgarh, 35 polling stations in the Maoist-hit Bastar division will be guarded by women commandos of Bastar Fighters. Additionally, one booth will be under the watch of transgender police officers. This is the first time that all-women teams are guarding this many booths, and the transgender-guarded booth is a first in Bastar. The move aims to provide more opportunities to women police personnel and promote gender sensitization and equality.
