Congress MLA Sunil Kedar has been disqualified from the Maharashtra legislative assembly following his conviction in the Rs150-crore Nagpur District Central Cooperative Bank scam. The disqualification was announced by the Maharashtra legislature secretariat. The Congress expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, while local BJP functionaries welcomed it. Kedar was convicted under various IPC sections by the chief judicial magistrate and sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment. Kedar’s lawyer Deven Chauhan said his client would move the sessions court on Tuesday after it reopens to challenge CJM Jyoti Pekhle-Purkar’s ruling.
