Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the tricolor at the Red Fort for the 11th consecutive year, marking the 78th Independence Day and his first in his third term. Only Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi have hoisted the tricolor more times. Modi has now surpassed Manmohan Singh, who hoisted it ten times during his tenure.
