SRINAGAR, Jan 31: The Friday following Me’raj-e-Alam was observed across Kashmir with great enthusiasm as devotees thronged major shrines to offer congregational prayers.
The largest gathering took place at the Hazratbal Shrine, where thousands of men and women assembled to witness the display of the sacred relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW). The relic, believed to be a strand of the Prophet’s hair, was exhibited five times throughout the day. Authorities deployed special buses to transport devotees to the Hazratbal shrine from various parts of Kashmir, including Srinagar. Elaborate arrangements were made to ensure the convenience and safety of worshippers.
Similar gatherings were held at other prominent shrines and mosques, including Asar Sharif Shahr-e-Kalashpora, Asar Sharif Jenab Sahab Soura, Lal Bazar, Yaqoob Sahab Sonwar, and Makhama Beerwah in Budgam district. Devotees also participated in prayers at local mosques, where sermons were delivered on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Me’raj-e-Alam, one of the most significant events in the Islamic calendar, marks the Prophet’s (SAW) miraculous journey from Mecca to Jerusalem and then to heaven, where he met previous prophets and received divine commandments.
Congregational prayers were also held at Khanyar, Sarai Bala Dastgeer Sahib Shrine, Khanqah-e-Moula, and other major shrines and mosques. Religious clerics on the occasion highlighted the teachings and life of the Prophet (SAW).
