KSWC celebrates Maharishi Kashyap Jayanti

JAMMU, Apr 5: The Maharishi Kashyap Jayanti was celebrated by Kashyap Samaj Welfare Committee (KSWC) of Bishnah Tehsil and its adjoining areas, here today.
On the occasion, rich tribute were paid to Maharishi Kashyapa. Members of Kashyap Samaj from Arnia-Ramgarh and from Jammu also participated.
Maharishi Kashyap Jayanti is a day to commemorate the birth anniversary of the revered sage Kashyapa.
Kashyapa is a revered figure in Kashyap Samaj, who is considered one of the seven great sages (Saptarishi). It is a great day of remembrances and reverence for Kashyapa sage and their knowledge contributions to whole samaj.
Members of samaj today demanded to declare this day as an optional holiday in Jammu & Kashmir, on 5th April.
The speakers conveyed message to the J&K Government that the JK-UT Kashyap-Nishad-Kewat-Bind etc Samaj known as Jheewer biradri as per JK-UT revenue record and it lists six Lakhs population, which comes in other backward classes (OBC’s), whereas in Uttar Pardesh, Bihar and West-Bengal this community comes in schedule caste (SC) category due to their most backwardness.
The JK-UT has not made any census since 1931, so the caste census is very much necessary in the whole country including Jammu & Kashmir.
They demanded to have a door to door survey before reserving some seats for JK-UT OBC’s as per their population.
Among others, who were present included Bansi Lal Choudhary, Kasturi Lal Sanotra (Ex-president Kashyap Rajput Sabha), Mohan Lal Pawar, Romesh Lal Kashyap, Bodh Raj Jullundhria, Darshan Mehra, Raj Kumar Sodi, Jagdish Kashyap, Sonu Kashyap, Ashwani Mehra, Sonu Mehra, Ajay Kashyap, Madan Lal Jullundhri, Ashok Mehra, Subash Bikha, Kuldeep Mehra and Onkar Singh.
