JAMMU, Apr 10: A sketch book on Duggar Icons in India was launched by Natrang Director Padamshiri Balwant Thakur, in a function held here today.
Produced by Sahitya Sangam which is one of the oldest and most respected publishing houses in Jammu and Kashmir, has taken a significant step in the field of visual arts by releasing its first-ever Sketch Book of Caricatures.
Sahitya Sangam has previously published several sketch books focused on themes of Dogra history, heritage and renowned artists like R K Laxman and painter Suman Gupta.
The newly released sketch book features captivating caricatures on its front and back covers, showcasing notable personalities from across various fields including politics, journalism, business, performing arts and social work.
The book is set to receive appreciation not only for its artistic quality but also for its concept of honoring modern-day icons of Jammu and Kashmir in a creative and respectful manner.
Speaking on the occasion, Balwant Thakur expressed his gratitude to Sahitya Sangam for consistently giving space to the promotion of heritage and arts of Jammu on such a prestigious platform.
“We express our heartfelt thanks to Sahitya Sangam for highlighting the cultural heritage and artistic talent of Jammu every year through their sketch book covers. In the coming years, Sahitya Sangam plans to continue showcasing the contributions of our ancient heritage, theatre and artists. These efforts will provide a new direction for fine arts students and ensure that the legacy of our region reaches even the youngest minds,” he said.
All caricatures in the book have been drawn by Shekhar, popularly known as Bunty Cartoonist.
Among those featured on the cover are former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, Padma Shri Balwant Thakur, Aaj Tak’s prominent journalist Sudhir Chaudhary, renowned hotelier Rakesh Wazir, senior journalist Sunny Dua, actor and theatre personality Suraj Singh, art promoter Sanjeev Gupta, cultural icon Manoj Chopra, renowned choreographer Akash Dogra, noted police officer Rakesh Singh Jamwal, artist Tanvir Dhar and heritage promoter Shakti Singh and others.
Among others who graced the event included Chander Shekher (Cartoonist), Rakesh Jamwal and Rohit Gupta, proprietor Sahitya Sangam.
