LEH, May 9: The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), chaired a meeting with the concerned officials at Raj Niwas to discuss the proposed construction of Ladakh Bhawan in Chandigarh. Chief Secretary, Dr Pawan Kotwal,; Secretary /Managing Director, Sindhu Infrastructure Development Corporation (SIDCO), Bhupesh Chaudhary, and Executive Engineer and Junior Engineer from SIDCO were present in the meeting.
MD SIDCO Bhupesh Chaudhary informed the LG that the Ladakh Bhawan in Chandigarh will specifically cater to patients from Ladakh who are referred to PGI Chandigarh for treatment, as currently there are no such facilities for patients /students from Ladakh in Chandigarh as in Delhi, Jammu and Srinagar in the form of Ladakh Bhawan and Leh and Kargil House.
He also informed the LG that around 96 beds would be available for patients, officials, students, and the public from Ladakh at the Ladakh Bhawan, spread over 6,964 square metres in Sector 33. He further informed that the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation building byelaws, such as the inclusion of the setback line, have been incorporated into the design.
MD SIDCO further informed the LG about the floor plans for the two-floor building (G+2), including a multipurpose hall, dining hall, reception area, conference hall, etc. on the ground floor; the first floor, which is earmarked specially for patients with dormitories, and the second hall, with suites and guest rooms, for officials and patients/general public.
Highlighting the need for optimum usage of the building, which will cater to patients, students, officials and visitors from Ladakh, the LG asked the concerned officials to collect data on the estimated footfall of patients/general public from Ladakh at Ladakh House in Chandigarh to ensure maximum occupancy of the rooms. He also asked the officials to earmark separate blocks for officials and guests/ public/patients on the second floor.
He highlighted the need to provide openings/gates on both sides of the property.
Pureways Infra Private Limited has been engaged as a consultant for the said project to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
